Booking your session.....

Be sure before booking your session make sure that you do your research on what you are envisioning for your engagement session. Do you want playful? Romantic? Documentary? Classic? or personalized? If you are having issues deciding, then I recommend going on Pinterest this is a good starting point. Pinterest has lots of options and this can help decide on what type of session would fit you and your partners personalities.

Picking your date...

When picking your date there can be a few of things to consider. Season, what season are you looking to have your session. Spring? Flowers bloom, mild weather, fresh colors. Summer? Golden sunsets, warm vibes, but can be hot. Fall? beautiful foliage, cozy outfits, cooler temperatures. Winter? Snowy landscapes, festive lights, but cold conditions. What time of day are you wanting for your session? Do you want a light and colorful during the day? For soft, dreamy lighting I suggest golden hour this will give your images that beautiful sunset glow. If using photos for invitations or save-the-dates, book at least 3-6 months to allow time for photographer's availability, editing, and printing.

Choosing the best location.....

When choosing your location think of the scenery that you are going for. It can be a place that has personal meaning, pick a place that reflects your love story where you first met, your favorite date spot, or where the proposal happened. Locations with sentimental value make your photos more meaningful.

Or you can choose by style & vibe... for romantic and natural chose parks, gardens, forests, or the beach. For more of an urban and modern location choose city streets, rooftops, coffee shops, or museums. If you are looking for more a rustic and vintage vibe, choose barns, vineyards, or historical landmarks. If you are unsure of locations with these types of scenery reach out to your photographer for suggestions.

Planning your outfits.....

When panning your outfits there are a couple thing to take into consideration...

1. Coordinate your outfits but do not match choose colors that complement each other. If you have trouble with this, you can find color pallets to help on Pinterest.
2. Consider location ..

For a beach vibe chose light, flowy fabrics, pastels, or whites.

For a city/ urban vibe go or chic and stylish—dresses, blazers, or trendy casual.

For a Fall vibe choose Warm tones, cozy layers, and boots.

For a winter vibe choose soft knits, scarves, and elegant coats.

3. Chose outfits that comfortable and flattering. Avoid anything too tight, overly loose, or uncomfortable.

4. Avoid distracting patterns such as flannels, logos etc. try to stick to subtle prints or solids to keep the focus on you.

Last, have fun and play with your outfit of choice by adding hats, scarves, jackets, or jewelry can add interest to your look.

Props...

If you choose to bring props to your session here are a few things to consider. A wooden sign with your wedding date or last name, a cute chalkboard or felt letterboard with a cute message as in "save the date" " forever and always" check with your photographer some have these on hand. Bring champagne, a champagne pop makes for a fun, celebratory shot! You can also bring champagne glasses for a romantic toast or a cozy blanket to cuddle under for a romantic vibe. A picnic basket with wine, cheese, and fruit for a relaxed setting these are a few ideas to help make your session unique. Please be sure to discuss these ideas with your photographer prior to your session he/she can prepare.

Planning poses.....

First take a visit to your photographer's website, look at their past sessions and see if any poses jump out at you. You can also find some really great posing ideas on Pinterest. Be sure to discuss with your photographer prior to the session about any posing ideas that you are wanting to try. During your session to keep the posing from being awkward relax and let your photographer guide you. Enjoy your session and have fun with it!
